School News and Updates

  • Today, September 10th we had our first practice fire drill. Each year Freetown Elementary is required to participate in four practice fire drills. The Freetown Fire Department works closely with FES to ensure our students are respectful, responsible, and safe during each practice drill. All students and staff took the drill seriously and exited the building in a quiet, safe, and efficient manner.
  • Speaking of safety... On Wednesday, September 30th, Freetown Elementary School will be practicing our Evacuation Drill with SRO Detective Medeiros. As you know safety is our highest priority with our students and staff. Being safe does include practicing ALICE Drills and Evacuation Drills. As we practice our emergency response drills such as ALICE and Evaluation Drills parents will be notified of such practices. At the conclusion of such practice drills families will be notified immediately using the Parent Square Email system. With that being said our first practice Evacuation Drill will take place on September 30th in the morning. This practice drill will be completed with our partnership with the Freetown Police. Additionally, students will practice and discuss this procedure with their classroom teacher. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Mr. Ward and/or SRO Medeiros.
  • Freetown Elementary School buses update: It appears based on daily intake of bus arrival and dismissal times we have the times outlined. Please be prepared that buses will be leaving Freetown Elementary School between 3:30-3:35 PM each day.

Attendance Matters

Each week parents/guardians/caregivers will be given the average daily attendance percentage for Freetown Elementary School. Our goal is that each day 94% of our student population attends school daily. We have been very successful the past couple of years reaching our goal. Please remember if your child is going to be absent for any reason please call Nurse Allie (508.763-5121 Ext. 5400) to make her aware of the absence.

Each classroom has a different schedule. Your child's classroom teacher will share with you the assigned days for specials. Soon your child is will become very familiar with the schedule.

Anonymous Bullying Form

As outlined in the Freetown Elementary School Handbook there is a policy on Bullying. Bullying is not tolerated at FES and/or within the FLRSD School District. If you believe that your child is being "Bullied" there is an anonymous Bullying form that parents/guardians can fill out on-line.

PTO Corner

The first PTO Meeting is taking place on Monday, September 14th beginning at 6:30 PM. Meetings are offered in person and virtual. Meetings are located in the FES library and attendees can gain access to the building using the main entrance on Bullock Road. The virtual invitation is shared below...

Important topics to cover from the PTO…
  • CORI Check and Fingerprinting…No matter if you are volunteering for the PTO or just in your child’s classroom there are two required forms that need to be done before you can volunteer.
  • A CORI check is free and is required regardless of what type of volunteering you would like to do at the school. A CORI is good for three years and requires renewal after three years. FES can provide a CORI form and the school will submit it to the local CORI board for processing. A copy of a valid license or state issued ID is required.
  • The fingerprinting process needs to be done if you would like to volunteer for events such as field trips and the Fox Festival (any event where an individual is with children unsupervised by a faculty member). There is a fee for fingerprinting. The fee is a one time fee and does not expire. You can find locations to set up an appointment for fingerprinting on-lne at www.identogo.com Please follow the directions below…
  • Select Massachusetts in the drop down menu to find the nearest fingerprinting center
  • Under Enrollment Services select “Digital Fingerprinting”
  • Select “Schedule a New Appointment”
  • From the Agency/Sector dropdown menu, select “Pre-K-12th Grade Education (ESE)”
  • Under Applicant Type Select “All Other School Personnel”
  • Select “yes” to confirm agency
  • Enter our Provider ID: 06650000
  • Confirm that the provider is Freetown-Lakeville
  • Enter your zip code or select a region to find a list of the closet centers
  • Enter all of the required information and provide the payment to finalize your appointment.

News and Happenings around FES Classrooms...

Pre-School:  We had a great first week!  The children spent time getting to know each other and learning the classroom routines.  Projects and activities included self portraits and brainstorming classroom safety rules.  

Grade 1:  Welcome to our new first graders! We had a busy week getting to know all our new classmates! We learned about new routines and expectations. We read some books about kindness, growth mindset, and friendship. We can’t wait to see what the new school year brings!

Grade 2: 
This week second graders continued to practice routines and expectations. In phonics, we reviewed first grade concepts, read and spelled words with short vowels. In math, students learned about place value and built and identified two and three digit numbers. In social studies, students learned about maps. We have been having a great time getting to know each other and our classroom! 

Grade 3: This week we continued to get to know each other and establish routines. We’ve been reading a book called Judy Moody, a very engaging and funny story to kick off the year! In writing, students started to write a biography poem. In Social Studies, students have been learning about maps. In both reading and math, students took the I-Ready diagnostic so that we can determine all students’ reading and math abilities. This information will help teachers place students in small groups that best meet the needs of each individual child during the year. 

Art:  Grade 3 students used their imaginations to turn 2 lines into original drawings.  Grade 2 will be traveling the world this year as every project will be a cultural art experience.  This week, we started Ukrainian paper eggs.  Grade 1 reviewed lines and directions.  K was introduced to the routines of the art room and practiced proper pencil grip and seat posture.  

Physical Education: First, second and third grade students practiced locomotor and nonlocomotor skills. Kindergarten students learned about the routines and expectations.

Music: Welcome back to school everyone! This week, students K-3 have started their unit on being expressive in music. We will learn new songs, games, and movements to be performed with appropriate musicality.
