Pre-School: This week in preschool we continued learning routines and safety rules. We began a new theme, “All About Me.” We learned ways in which we are alike and different. Projects and activities included buses, houses, and drawings/dictations of things we like. We ended the week with “Red Day.” We highlighted the color red by wearing something red to school.
Kindergarten: This week in Kindergarten we started going over the Fundations letter cards, talking more about classroom and school expectations, and went over our All About Me assignments. It was so fun to learn more about our classmates and find some friends with similar interests.
Grade 1: This week in first grade we started reviewing letter sounds and formations. We also have been sharing out our All About Me bags and getting to know each other. In math we began learning about math talk and the steps to solving problems. In writing the students are learning the routines and expectations.
Grade 2: This week second graders continued to explore place value in math and learned to show 3 digit numbers in various ways. In phonics, students spelled and read words with closed syllables, digraphs, and blends. In reading comprehension, students learned how to ask and answer questions before, during and after reading. Students also completed their iReady beginning of the year testing in both reading and math. You will receive this data shortly. We were impressed with how hard students worked!
Grade 3: This week in math, students were introduced to the four strategies in multiplication: repeated addition, drawing pictures, making arrays, and skip counting. In reading, we continued to read Judy Moody. Students created their own “Me Collage” to coincide with the character Judy in this story. In writing, students learned about creating a community of writers. In social studies, students learned about the regions within Massachusetts.
Art: K students listened to the I’m Not Just a Scribble and then drew adorable scribble monsters while practicing good pincher grip and drawing posture. Grade 1 got creative using lines to draw original pictures. Grade 2 is learning about the Ukrainian folk art Pysanky (decorative eggs) and used oil pastels to draw a symmetrical design on a paper egg shape. Grade 3 used their imaginations to transform 2 lines into original drawings.
Physical Education: This week in PE, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students started working on kicking skills. This included indoor games such as Fruit Loop Tag and stations as well as outdoor stations: ball handling, dribbling, passing and shooting. Kindergarten classes continued learning the classroom expectations and routines. We also started to work on maintaining the bubble of personal space while practicing movement skills such as walking, jogging, galloping, slide-step, and skipping.
