FES Thursday Message - 8th Edition
|
A HUGE thank-you to our incredible FES PTO for organizing and bringing our annual Trunk or Treat to life last weekend! Your time, dedication, and generosity helped create a fun, memorable experience for our FES students and families. Events like these remind us how fortunate we are to have such a supportive school community.
We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to all the families who generously donated candy to help make the event a success. Every donation helped add a little extra sweetness to the celebration!
A HUGE shout-out to SRO Medeiros and the Freetown Police Department for joining in the fun by decorating a creative “jail” trunk! Thank you for your continued presence, support, and connection with our FES community. We also extend a special thank-you to Deputy Chief LaFleur for representing the Freetown Fire Department and bringing a fire truck for our students and families to enjoy.
What a wonderful way to strengthen the connection between our school and our local heroes!
Thank you to Gym Hutt for joining in the fun and helping make the event even more special! We are also grateful to every family who decorated a trunk, shared their creativity, and helped make the event such an enjoyable experience for our children.
It truly takes a village, and last weekend was a wonderful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together for its children. The collaboration, generosity, and enthusiasm of our FES families, PTO, and community partners continue to make Freetown Elementary School such a special place.
Thank you all for helping create lasting memories for our Freetown Foxes!

A huge thank-you to SRO Medeiros for hosting Halloween Safety Assemblies for our kindergarten through Grade 3 students at FES! During these engaging presentations, he reminded our Freetown Foxes to stay safe while enjoying Halloween festivities, including using sidewalks and crosswalks, looking both ways before crossing the street, carrying a flashlight or wearing reflective clothing, staying with a trusted adult, and only visiting homes where they know it is safe to do so. He also reminded students to have a trusted adult inspect their Halloween candy before enjoying their treats. To make the assemblies even more special, SRO Medeiros generously provided each student with a Halloween candy bag! We are grateful for his continued commitment to keeping our students safe while building positive relationships with our school community. Thank you, SRO Medeiros, for helping our Foxes have a spooktacular and safe Halloween!

What an exciting week of exploration, creativity, and problem-solving at Freetown Elementary School! STEM Week brought learning to life as our Freetown Foxes became engineers, designers, scientists, and creative thinkers. Throughout the week, students had opportunities to ask questions, test ideas, build, experiment, learn from mistakes, and discover that sometimes the best learning happens when things don't go as planned!
Each grade level explored a unique STEM theme, providing hands-on experiences that encouraged curiosity, collaboration, critical thinking, and perseverance.
-
Preschool: Boats and Bridges — our youngest learners explored building, floating, and creating structures.
-
Kindergarten: Boats — students experimented with design, buoyancy, and what makes a boat float.
-
Grade 1: Towers — students put their engineering skills to the test by designing and constructing towers.
-
Grade 2: Water and Erosion — students investigated how water shapes and changes the land.
-
Grade 3: Catapults — students explored force, motion, and design as they created and tested their own launching devices.
Across all grade levels, our students demonstrated creativity, teamwork, and perseverance as they embraced challenges and worked toward solutions. They learned that being a problem-solver means trying new approaches, learning from mistakes, and never giving up!
A huge thank-you to our dedicated FES staff for creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences that made STEM Week so memorable. Your commitment to providing meaningful opportunities for our students helps foster a love of learning that extends far beyond the classroom.

Gentle Reminder that Preschool Picture Day will take place on Thursday, November 5th. This individual picture day for preschoolers will also be the picture retake day for all other students.
Living in New England brings the seasonal changes that we have grown accustomed to, or for some, maybe we are just wishing for warmer weather. But, like it or not, the fall-like weather is upon us. As a gentle reminder, our students will be going outside for recess as long as the weather permits. With that said, please dress your child appropriately each day for outdoor activities.

Prek: This week in preschool we learned about pumpkins and how they grow. We reviewed the letters learned so far. We ended the week with Triangle Show-and-Tell!
Kindergarten: This week in Kindergarten, we learned about the letters c & o. We learned their sounds and how to form the letters using the airplane line and grass line. We added the word see to out list of high frequency words. In math, we counted, showed, and wrote numbers up to 5. Finally, we had so much fun building boats that would float for STEM week.
Grade 1: This week in first grade we worked on short vowels and alphabetical order. For comprehension we reviewed retelling stories and asking and answering questions in a text along with visualization. In writing, we are working on responding to a text and whole ideas in sentences. In math we worked on teen numbers, which are made up of 1 ten and some ones. In science, we participated in STEM Week. We made our own paper towers and got to test them out!
Grade 2: This week second graders learned to compare 3 digits numbers in math using the symbols <, >, and =. They also learned how to spell and read words with the suffixes -s, -es, -ed, -ing, -er, -est. In reading we explored non-fiction text features by reading about weathering and erosion. This tied in nicely to STEM week as students learned about, engineered and constructed a sea wall. In writing we learned how to visualize about a place and use sensory details to describe it.
Grade 3: This week in third grade, we learned about how multiplication and division are connected. We read word problems and determined the clue words of whether to multiply or divide. In reading, students read nonfiction passages that explored the essential question: “How do landmarks help us understand our country’s story?” In writing, students worked to revise and edit one piece of writing. Finally, we had a blast during STEM week learning about, constructing, and testing catapults!
Art: Kindergarteners are starting to explore shapes. They stamped lines in different directions with black paint. Next week, we will find and color the shapes they made. Grade 1 completed their spiral mane lions by painting with water colors. Grade 2 completed their amazing peacock line designs. Grade 3 completed their continuous line designs by gluing them onto construction paper and adding a glittery frame.
Physical Education: This week, students in second and third grade practiced their pacing and cardiorespiratory endurance while running the baseline 15 minute running challenge. Kindergartens learned how to perform jumping jacks, ski jumps, wall push ups, plank position, and “Good Morning, Good Night” sit-ups. First grade students completed a fitness circuit with push-up, sit-up, jogging, sprinting, jumping jack, burpee and fitness band stations.
